HESS constructed a new three-story, 350,000-SF Yorktown High School that features technology-enhanced classrooms and laboratories, a media center, performing arts spaces with rehearsal rooms and a black box theater, physical education spaces with competition and auxiliary gyms, an atrium and courtyard, cafeteria and kitchen, and expanded central plant. The project also included the construction of a new 19,000-SF aquatics center.
Yorktown High School was designed to achieve LEED Silver certification but officially achieved LEED Gold. Energy-saving features include green roofs, rainwater harvesting system, roof-mounted solar water heating system, daylight harvesting, water conserving plumbing fixtures and the use of salvaged building materials and materials that emit lower volatile organic compounds.
