GAITHERSBURG, MD (November 4, 2016) – Montgomery County Department of General Services recently hosted the highly anticipated grand opening of the county’s largest Public Safety Training Academy. The event was held onsite at the academy and attended by Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, Montgomery County Council President Nancy Floreen, United States Representative John Delaney and Montgomery County Department of General Services Director David Dise, among other distinguished officials. The Montgomery County Police, Fire & Rescue, Department of Transportation and Department of Correction and Rehabilitation were represented in full force to witness the historic ribbon cutting event. All in attendance were invited to tour the facility following the ceremony.

Valued at $68 million, this complex campus is the third phase in the County’s Multi-Agency Service Park, a critical component of the County’s Smart Growth Initiative to invest in government facilities to serve its rapidly expanding population. The campus includes City Scape Buildings, Indoor Shooting Range, Bus Driver Training Facility, Canine Training Facility, High Bay Fire Training Building, Fire Dept. Apparatus Bay, Fuel Facility, Parking Garage, Driving Tracks, Skid Pad and Fire/Rescue Special Operations Areas. This campus, designed to simulate real-life hazards, will prepare Montgomery County’s Fire, Police, Transit and Emergency Response personnel with the advanced academic and practical skills training needed to protect our entire community.

The project is designated as a sustainable site and currently on track to achieve LEED Gold accreditation, in accordance with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards.
